How to Spot Septic System Problems

With so many other maintenance tasks around the house, people tend to forget about septic tank maintenance. However, a lack of attention to your septic system can lead to serious problems, like flooding, well water contamination, and water pooling - all of which can damage your property and even cause serious illness to those in your home or business. Besides scheduling regular professional septic tank inspections, here are some signs you can look out for that can signal a need for septic system maintenance and repair services

  • Slow draining sink or toilet: Slow drains can mean that your septic system is blocked or clogged. You’ll need to get this fixed right away to avoid bigger problems like septic overflow into a basement or raw sewage flooding onto your property.

  • Water pooling in backyard: Pooling water that is located near your drain field could be a sign that your septic drain field is leaking. It can also lead to contaminated water, which means this needs to be dealt with immediately.

  • Septic Odor: If you are noticing a bad smell on your property or even worse, in your water, call us at ASAP Septic Services immediately! Do NOT drink your water as it could cause serious sickness. Also keep an eye out for discolored water.

  • Grass or plants dying in your backyard: This can be another sign of a drain field leaking and should be handled immediately. Your plants may be the first victims of contamination from leaking wastewater.

Regular septic tank maintenance can help prevent and/or solve these problems before they turn into a much bigger (and messier) issue! We recommend scheduling a septic tank cleaning and pumping every 2-5 years to maintain a healthy septic system. However, sometimes those bigger and messier problems just happen, and often at the least convenient times. That is why here at ASAP Septic Service we offer 24 hour emergency septic services along with our septic cleaning, maintenance and repair. With over 30 years of experience, ASAP Septic Service can help you get back to a healthy septic so that you can get back to life!
